After some 10 years, the installation here still looks like new, even when the LEDline® grooves and installation cross from concrete pads to asphalt and back again. There are no degradation, spalling, or cracks in the concrete pads or asphalt, even though the grooves are cut in all directions.
Although the LEDline® guidance lighting has never been turned off,
the LEDline® and its LEDs are still visible in bright sunlight.
why Vancouver international's de-icing pads are excellent testing grounds for any in-pavement installations:
Vancouver International is built North of the USA, so; + experiences winter; + is next to the pacific ocean, so has many freeze/thaw cycles; + is close to major active Tectonic plate fault lines, "The pacific ring of fire"! Therefore, the LEDline® safety guidance Lighting there experiences;
• frequent winter freeze/thaw cycles;
• winter snowploughs and airfield runway/taxiway de-icing brushes;
• Chemically aggressive de-icing pad chemicals;
• an average of some 500 earth tremors a year;
• and the increasing summer heat!
The pictures below are Copyright of Vancouver International and are from Vancouver International’s website on their efficient winter ice and snow clearing efforts at: http://www.yvr.ca/en/media/snow-operations
The LEDline® there, experiences all of this.
Despite LEDline® safety, guidance lighting being constantly left on since FALL 2009, so working 24/07 for some +12 years and counting; the LEDline® installation at Vancouver International still looks great and the LEDline® guidance and its LEDs are still seen in full sunlight so are still excellent at night!
