In Tunnels: LEDline® Can Be Used For; • traffic guidance; • for Waterproof Tunnel lighting; • guidance to improve tunnel safety in the event of infire and smoke; • Sequencing to control traffic speeds In Tunnels.
since 2009, LEDline® has been Used for traffic safety guidance lighting at the Bjørvika Tunnel in Oslo, Norway
- In 2009, LEDline® safety guidance lighting was installed in the ceiling of the Bjørvika Tunnel in Oslo, Norway, to guide traffic. It is still functioning today.
- Each Yellow LEDline® unit was installed next to the standard white tunnel lights, along with the entire spare tunnel ceiling. Its brightness outside and within the tunnel demonstrates LEDline®'s safety guidance lighting ability to provide functional lighting levels in tunnels.
- When an accident or other blockage occurs in the tunnel and a change to an alternative, clear tunnel is required, the LEDline® safety guidance lighting indicates this by sequencing and directing traffic from the blocked tunnel to the open, adjacent tunnel. Therefore, it is used as emergency safety guidance lighting for drivers and vehicles to follow.
- Every LEDline® safety guidance unit has 12 x LEDs, is VDC powered by HIL-Tech's VDC power supply, and is individually computer-controlled with HIL-Tech's "Dynamic Effects Package".
- The units are controllable as to; the dimming of any individual unit to any level of brightness; having all units on, or some units on and others off; and being able to sequence the LEDline® safety guidance units in any direction with any number or combination of LEDline® guidance units.
Visible in daylight, yellow (12 x LED) LEDline® units are installed next to the Bjørvika Tunnel's standard tunnel lighting.
(Note: As demonstrated in the video below, even though the standard white tunnel lighting is left on, the yellow LEDline® guidance lighting is brighter and shows up better in the tunnel.)
Below is a Video of the LEDline® Ceiling safety Traffic Guidance System in the Bjørvika Tunnel.
With HIL-Tech's "Dynamic Effects Package", each LEDline® guidance unit is independently computer controllable as; to dimming; to the number of lit units on at any one time; and to the sequencing direction of the lit units, so when the main tunnel is blocked, operators can remotely sequence the LEDline® safety guidance units, leading drivers safely away towards the available alternate tunnel.

LEDline® could be used in Tunnels; • for tunnel lighting; • in the event of a fire with difficult Visibility and smoke, Sequencing LEDline® could improve tunnel safety by leading people/drivers away from the fire and smoke towards an exit; • to control tunnel speeding: LEDline® could be sequenced. Those either passing, or not keeping pace with the remotely set speed of the sequencing could then be Automatically ticketed.
How and why LEDline® could be used for tunnel lighting.
- A Single LEDline® Safety Guidance Unit with 12 x 150 lumen LEDs, Produces Some 1800 Lumens of Fully Useable Directed White Light. In addition, a LEDline® Lamp, Including Its Mounting Plate, is only 28.5mm (1.1") high. Therefore, in older low-ceiling tunnels, it could easily be fitted onto the tunnel's roof or at the side, and when spaced close together, would provide any required light levels.
- • Being solid, so hermetically sealed, the LEDline® lighting system can be rapidly cleaned with very high-pressure water, saving
- both cleaning and tunnel downtime. (Whilst driving through a tunnel, pressure washing and cleaning the lighting fixtures, the
- higher the water pressure, the faster the lighting units can be cleaned, reducing any necessary tunnel lane closure times.
- • if the LEDline® was powered via the completely sealed induction power supply system, this would again eliminate any concerns
- about the water pressure cleaning, causing electrical corrosion;
- --- if additional capabilities for the LEDline® were desired, HIL-Tech’s VDC-powered system and its "Dynamic Effects Package"
- could be used to power the LEDline®, and remote computer control of each LEDline® unit for dimming and/or sequencing could
- be used to;
- • sequence LEDline® units, leading pedestrians and walking drivers safely, away from any fire and smoke;
- • control sequencing lights as to their speed, so that those overtaking the ceiling lights, could be automatically ticketed; • guide, and sheepherding people towards tunnel escape areas; • outline any escape exits with green LEDline®.
